David Henry Wang is a truly distinguished and remarkably successful Asian American author, playwright and opera collaborator. Perhaps best known for M. Butterfly, Wang is recognized for his ability to portray the Asian-American experience in comedy and drama. As author of the book based on the musical Flower Drum Song, Wang addresses life in America as lived by Chinese immigrants while touching on universal issues experienced by men and women of all colors. The generation gap, cultural mores and family relationships are examined in many of his works. M. Butterfly has all the elements of a love story set within Peking』s opera community while it also exposes theater goers to a discussion of gender identity and sexuality. David Henry Wang has won numerous awards for his literary works including a Tony and Drama Desk Award, in addition to being nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in literature for M. Butterfly.
