「搖擺州」及其重要性

所有的選票和投票的選民都很重要，候選人或其代理人將走訪所有的州。競選團隊和政治行動委員會在電視和廣播中發布廣告，他們還通過電話或郵件向選民拉票。

儘管如此，候選人可以根據「政治算術」來分配競選活動的資源——在哪些州他們有信心獲勝、在哪些州他們感覺會輸，還有哪些州輸贏都有可能。這第三類州被稱為「搖擺州」或「戰場州」，這幾個或大或小的州在競選活動和選舉中起到尤為重要的作用。

每一位候選人都會致力於贏得這些州的選舉人票，以達到在總統大選中勝出所需的270張選舉人票。

#US-General Election - Swing States and Why They Matter

All votes — and voters — are important, and all states will be visited by the candidates or their surrogates. Campaign staffs and political action committees will place advertisements on the radio and TV, and will reach out to potential voters by phone or mail.

That said, candidates may allocate campaign resources based on the "political math" -- which states they feel confident they can win, which they feel they will lose, and which states could go either way.

It is this third group of "swing states" or "battleground states," some large and some small, that play a particularly important role in the campaign and the election.

Each candidate will work to win those states electoral votes, in order to reach the 270 needed to win the election.
