Political parties select theircandidate through a primary election. A primary is an election in which apolitical party selects its candidates to run in the general election. In thepresidential nomination process, voters select delegates who will cast theirballots for a particular candidate at the party』s national convention. Inprimary races for other elected offices, voters vote directly to nominate acandidate, who will then represent the party in the general election for thatoffice.
