結緣眾生的竅訣

我們傳播佛法、結緣眾生的時候，對有些人不能直接講上師三寶與佛法的功德，應該先講些他喜歡的內容。比如說他喜歡求世間法，就跟他講如何求得世間的利益。雖然我們不能講綺語，但若是為了迎接眾生，為了度化眾生，也可以說一些「綺語」。他愛聽故事，就給他講故事；他愛聽其他的內容，也可以講一些。然後，在方便的時候再講一些上師三寶的功德，講一些佛法的功德，慢慢地讓他生起信心。

When we spread Dharma and make connections with sentient beings, as for some people, we shouldn』t talk about the Guru and three Jewels as well as the merits of Dharma directly with them. Instead, we should talk with them about their favorite things. For example, if someone is fond of pursing worldly concerns, we can just tell him how to achieve the worldly benefits. Although 『frivolous speech』 is not permitted, in the circumstance of leading and liberating sentient beings, we can still say some 『frivolous speech』. If he likes stories, we can just tell him some stories; if he likes other topics, we can also tell some of them. Then, at his convenient, we can tell him some merits of the Guru and the three Jewels, and some merits of Dharma in order to arouse his faith.

首先，通過布施讓他來學修，讓他親近上師與佛法。然後，再通過愛語，說他愛聽的話。尤其是有些人很會說話，這個時候就要發揮作用了，但是具體說什麼內容，還要有智慧。這時要觀察對方，看他喜歡聽什麼，就跟他講什麼，然後慢慢地跟他講佛法。比如，他若愛聽健康方面的內容，就給他講這方面的，方便的時候再講佛法，讓他明白佛法才可以令人健康，佛法才可以治療一切疾患。他若喜歡做生意，就給他講一些這方面的內容，比如做供養或布施可以發財，做火施、供護法可以遣除很多違緣，讓他生歡喜心。

First, make him to learn and practice, to be close to the Guru and Dharma through alms giving. Then, through caring words, saying the words that he loves to hear. Especially for someone who has good communication skills, it』s time to play a role. But what to say needs wisdom. We should observe him first as to find out what he likes to hear, and then talk with him. Gradually, we talk about Dharma with him. For example, if he likes talking about health, we just tell him things about health. When it』s convenient, we can tell him something about Dharma to make him understand that Dharma can make people healthy and remedy all illnesses. If he is fond of doing business, we just tell him things about business. For example, tell him that offering or alms giving enable him to make a fortune, besides fire puja and offering Dharmapala can eliminate lots of unfavorable conditions to make him happy.

現在我們有火施、供護法等這些方法，通過這些方法，能獲得暫時的利益。有些人特別喜歡這些形式的東西。如果一開始就對他說「不需要形式的東西，安住！安住！」他也不知道什麼叫安住，也不會安住啊！這時可以先跟他講這些形式上的東西，然後帶著他去做。若是他有信心，去做了，肯定能起到作用，這樣他一下子就會生起信心。

At present, we have practice methods like fire puja, offering Dharmapala and so on, through them we can gain the temporary benefits. Some people are keen on such formal things. If at the very beginning we tell him: 『You don』t need formal things, but just abide, abide!』 He doesn』t know what is abiding, let alone to practice it! At this point, we can tell him these formal things and practice together with him. If he is with faith and willing to practice, it will certainly work, thus he will arouse further faith.

做火施、供護法、放寶瓶等，這些都是方法。很多眾生就是喜歡這些形式上的東西，也願意做這些。但這不是我們的最終目的，我們通過這些方法，讓他了解佛法，讓他對佛法生起信心，這是最重要的。

The fire puja, offering Dharmapala, laying treasured bottles and so on are methods. Many people like such formal things and would like to practice them. However, it isn』t our ultimate aim. It is crucial that we bring him to learn about Dharma and help him to arouse faith on Dharma by these ways.
