Will Accepting Others』 Charity Decrease One』s Blessings?

問：很多修行人不敢接受別人的布施，怕消耗自己的福報，怕背業。接受別人的布施，會消耗福報，會背業嗎？

Question: Many practitioners dare not accept charity from others for fear of decreasing their own blessings and bearing bad karmas. Will accepting charity decrease blessings or bear bad karmas?

答：接受別人的布施，不一定就是消耗福報，主要是你以什麼樣的心態來接受。若是你能發一個慈悲心，不會受不好的影響。你接受他的布施，對他來說，你也是個布施的對境，也是一種福田。你能當他的福田，也是好事。

Answer: Accepting others』 charity doesn』t necessarily decrease blessings, for it mainly lies in your attitude. If you can arouse compassion, it will not have bad influence on you. While accepting his charity, you are also an object for him to give charity, and a kind of blessing field. You can be his blessing field, which is also a good thing.

若是你不能發心發願，怕背業，認為我還是不接受的好，那麼你不接受布施也是一種自私。「我不能造業啊，我將來要下地獄啊。」表面上雖然在斷惡行善，實際上都是自私自利。

If you can』t arouse such motivation, for fear of bearing bad karmas, thinking I』d better not accept it, then your not accepting charity is also a kind of selfishness. 「I can』t make bad karmas, or I will go to hell in the future.」 You are seemingly stopping the evil and doing the good, but actually all is selfish.

你的心到位了，真正能為了利益眾生而造業，這也是一種修行，也是一種功德。不敢造業，怕自己背業，那是自私。釋迦牟尼佛在因地，作為大悲商主的時候，殺死短矛黑人，圓滿了七萬劫的福德。

If your motivation is right, then it』s also a kind of practice and merit even to create karmas in order to benefit all beings. It is selfish not daring to create karmas for fear of bearing karmas. Once in a previous life, the Buddha was a captain called Great Compassion Business Master. He killed an evil pirate called Short Spear Black and achieved blessings of 70,000 kalpas.

其實境界也是在一層層的證悟中提升的。對空性的了解也是，從有到沒有，沒有到有，最後才是真有。現在我們的「有」叫執著。先從有到沒有，從沒有到有，才是真正的成就。

Actually your state escalates with the levels of your realization. So is the understanding of the emptiness. From existence to nonexistence, and then from nonexistence to existence, finally, we will realize the true existence. Our 「existence」 now is attachment. From existence to nonexistence, and then from nonexistence to existence, at last you will achieve the real enlightenment.

Great Compassion Business Master大悲商主: 具體請參考《大圓滿前行》索達吉堪布譯 P225

從前我等大師（釋迦牟尼佛）曾經轉生為大悲商主時，和五百位商人一起去大海（取寶）的途中，一個名為短矛黑人的兇殘強盜企圖殺害五百商人。大悲商主想：這五百商人全部是不退轉菩薩，如果這個人殺害了他們，他將會在地獄中住無量劫（感受痛苦），實在可憐，若我殺了這個人，他就不會墮入地獄，我自己墮地獄也是沒辦法的。這樣想了之後，大悲商主以非凡的勇氣殺了那個強盜，（以此業大悲商主不但未墮入惡趣中，而且）圓滿了七萬劫的資糧。此公案表面上看，大悲商主是造了惡業，因為他是菩薩親自殺了一個人，實際上是善業，因為他沒有牽涉私慾，暫時保護了五百商人的生命，並且究竟把短矛黑人從地獄的痛苦中解救出來，所以是極大的善業。

Previously, our great lord, Sakyamuni was reincarnated as Great Compassion Business Master, with 500 businessmen traveling to the sea to take the treasure. During this journey, a murderous bandit named Short Spear Black attempted to kill these people. Business Master thought: all these 500 people were considered as irreversible Bodhisattvas, and if they were killed by this man, he would suffer in the hell for immeasurable kalpas, which was really pitiful. However, if I killed this man, he would avoid falling into the hell, and there was no choice for me in this situation even if I would fall into hell. After this thought, Great Compassion Business Master killed the bandit by the extraordinary courage. With this good deed, Business Master not only avoided falling into the lower realms, but also accumulated merits and fortunes of 70,000 kalpas. Although the issue appears that Business Master created bad karma because as a Bodhisattva, he killed a man, in fact it was good karma for it was not involved with his selfish desire. He protected the lives of 500 businessmen for the moment, and saved Short Spear Black from the pain of the hell, which is regarded as extremely good deed.
