I"ve long been aware of his strong play into NBA old age, but didn"t quite appreciate his amazing durability. One of those 17 seasons was the lockout shortened 98-99. In 16 seasons, he played 82 games.

It"s kind of amusing when people sometimes ridicule these 18 or 19 year-old kids for not dedicating 110% effort into their basketball skills, yet the same people probably don"t give half a crap about their performance at their own job.

the easy way (for me to understand it at least) to explain it is they make so much more than other "elite" jobs is because such a gigantic portion of the population is interested in them. not a lot of things are so popular with so many people

Plus, if anyone wants to talk about what players make, you always have to bring up what owners and top execs make.

Basketball players are paid what they are because there is a lucrative market for high-level ball played in a league with limited roster spots, a league that naturally excludes those who did not win the genetic lottery. That is it. The high pay of the average basketball player does not correlate to a player"s personal virtue, or struggle, or the drudgery of the job. A NBA player"s pay is the result of tickets and video sold pided by the number of players.

If basketball were not a marketable sport, and Kevin Durant practiced ball 10 brutal hours a day while ignoring the haters, he would be a tall skinny guy exercising in a park. Pay is a result of market forces, not the hardship(really?) of press scrutiny and public perception.

籃球運動員之所以拿這麼高的酬勞是因為有這麼一個有利可圖的市場，當然這意味著高水平競技和有限的名額，也就自然而然地排除了那些天賦較差的人。就這麼簡單。籃球運動員的高薪水與其個人美德、工作的難易、乏味程度都無關，這只是入場門票、電視轉播的收入造成的。

And that is why he has 2 of the most untouchable records in professional sports. All Time Assists and All Time Steals are preposterously out of reach. I don"t think any player currently in the league is even close to being on pace to make a run at either record.

CP3 is the next closest active player, and he had about half as many in each category.

Malone was also crazy.

Missed a total of 10 games over 18 seasons with Utah. Played every game in 10 seasons. Never missed more than 2 games in any season.

Look at his advanced stats - it"s crazy how little his overall efficiency declined in his later years. There were moments when it did look like his age was about to catch up to him but he still posted some crazy numbers for a 40+ year old PG. Fuck Mark Jackson for ruining his last season.
