I"m torn on that. On the one hand, Leonard has sort of evolved past the DPOY considerations and into the MVP talks. On the other, I think MVP or not, everyone should get recognition or their defense.

That said, Leonard has been his amazing typical defensive this year, but Gobert has been absolutely historic this season. I"d be fine with either winning, and I wouldn"t complain about Dray taking it, either. But he better get an All-Defense 1st team this year over Deandre.

He should be DPOY though......he is the best/most impactful defender this season.

anybody who has seen the jazz while hes on the bench knows this. Its a rim parade without him. Honestly think Utah is sub 20th in defense with him off the roster. GSW still has solid defensive pieces in Klay SLiv Iggy Mcgee Zaza etc without Dray I think they are comfortably top 15 defensively

Yes but Draymond is also the Warriors" only rim protector and does a whole lot of everything else on a better defense. I think Gobert is the best pure rim protector but Draymond is way more well rounded and is also having an excellent year.

1) We can take a look at rim protection data

The difference is tiny in other words, way way way less than people think. Both are elite at it. Gobert in general is a better rim protector but the gap is way overstated and if we already acknowledge Draymond is way more versatile that"s a pretty compelling argument in his favor.

2) The idea many also have that the Warriors dont really need Draymond because of all the other gusy they have defensively is also off

You can see when Durant/Curry/Thompson are on the court but not Draymond their defensive rating is a very meh 106.4 and opponents shoot a very high 65.4% at the rim. The Warriors with him on their defnesive rating is 101.7 overall which is amongst the best.

Opponents when Draymond is on the court only shoot 59% at the rim vs GSW. 64% when he"s off also.

It"s a close race but the idea Draymond doesnt have a real case doesnt add up.

當格林在場上時，對手在籃筐附近的命中率只有59%，而當他下場時，這一數據上升到了64%。

他倆的競爭很激烈，但是說格林拿DPOY就毫無機會絕對是不存在的。

He"s been so consistent this year. We"ve been struggling for the last week or so and in the last 10 games he"s put up 17.2pts/13.4reb/2.2ast/3.2blk shooting 73.7% from the field. He at least gave us a fighting chance in the games that we lost when everyone else was playing poorly. I"m interested to see how he continues to improve since this is only his second full year starting and he missed a quarter of the season last year.

The fan smart enough to know how good Hayward is also knows about Gobert

Can someone explain how ORTG and DRTG work?

I"m especially curious how a guy averaging 13ppg is 2nd in ORTG.

In any case, I hope Rudy gets sidebar for that 35/13 game on infinity efficiency yesterday.

This is his personal Ortg which is really just about counting in how many points the possessions that end up with you result in.

It counts only FGs/FGAs, free throws and turnovers. Therefore bigmen whose only job is to finish at the rim always have high Ortg because they only take high percentage shots and their role in the offense is too small to have many turnovers.
