Russell Westbrook makes history as he sets the new NBA-record for most triple-doubles in a single season with his 42nd triple-double of the season (self.nba)

He finished the game with a game-winning buzzer-beater from way downtown! That gave him another 50-point triple-double, his third in his career. MVP?

This to me is way more impressive than a triple double average. You can stat pad an individual triple double sometimes. Catch rebound off a free throw, full court pass lay up, yada yada. Aint no stat padding a fucking 30 point triple double AVERAGE. You"re tellin me that over the course of 82 games nearly every team in the league is just gonna let Russ fuck around and drop a 30 point triple double? No. Nobody lets anybody get anything. If it was like, 25/10/10, I would still be impressed but it"s something I could expect Russell to do.

Yeah I think the backlash is cause Harden is having a season for the ages as well, and has his team playing better. I was rooting for Harden but down the stretch I think Russ clinched it.

Everyone tries to downplay his stats because they say he"s a stat padder. What they don"t understand is giving up rebounds to Russ is the Thunders game plan because it starts a fast break by the greatest current fast break player in the league.

Denver crowd was great cheering for him- getting hyped when he had the ball, getting upset when a shot from his pass missed, and even booing when they took him out while 1 assist away lol.

I liked how the announcers kept laughing when the assisted shots missed. I wonder what the FG% was for people receiving WB passes this game (or in the second half). They kept missing and it kept getting funnier

I went to the Suns and Thunder game and it was exactly the same. When he got the ball everyone was yelling "PASS!!!" And then when someone caught it everyone yelled "SHOOT!!!" And inevitably Kyle Singler would brick.

mad props to the Nuggets for having he PA announcer say something, the crowd standing up, AND the Nuggets players on the bench standing up and clapping as well. This is much, much bigger than today"s game. This is history, and we"re lucky to get to see it.

Insane. Everyone was getting so antsy every time he touched the ball when he had 1 assist to go. Everyone was standing and cheering as he took the ball down the court. Every time he passed and his team missed the basket you"d hear some boos. Then he started hitting 3s instead of going for it. And when it finally happened the place erupted.

The final basket was even louder. The place was crazy and I"m sure at least three people had heart attacks.

I"m a Nuggets fan, severely heartbroken now that our season is over, but to see that in person will be one of my favorite basketball memories! That man is just absolutely insane.

Stat padding and having a historic MVP-level season aren"t mutually exclusive.

There"s no doubt Westbrook has stat chased on some uncontested boards this year and on assists these past few games.

But he"s also probably the MVP and had one of the best individual seasons of all-time. People struggle with this.
