I wasn"t really in to the NBA then and was wondering why the Heat only won 1 game in the series? Especially after winning the year before in 7 games. Each of the spurs wins was by at least 15 points.

The Spurs played some of the most efficient basketball I"ve ever seen. The 2014 finals also ended up being Kawhi"s breakout party.

The 2014 finals also ended up being Kawhi"s breakout party.

Kind of. I"d say he was significantly better the following season. In terms of FMVPs he"s a pretty weak winner, he won it by playing well in the last 3 games of a 5 game series

most people thought it was going to Duncan until during Game 4 where analysts started praising him for his "lockdown" defense on Bron and the hype became out of control

Kawhi playing so well in those 3 games was the driving factor of it being only a 5 game series. Pretty deserving reason, considering the kind of influence he had on the outcome.

But I agree about him "locking down" LeBron though. LeBron still put up ridiculous stats - 28/7/4 on .57/.52/.79 shooting.

Though Kawhi"s one steal on Wade where he kept relentlessly probing him on the perimeter still makes me chuckle when thinking about it.

EDIT: It is worth it to note though, that Diaw shared a large chunk of LeBron guarding duties during the "medium ball" lineups, so a lot of that success goes to that Diaw mismatch

補充：值得一提的是，迪奧在小球陣容中分擔了很大一部分防守勒布朗的職責，所以迪奧對勒布朗的錯位防守也應當記上一記大功。

This is super important! Diaw played amazing D on LeBron all series.

Spurs were angry with how the 2013 Finals went and wanted to avenge.

Every Heat other than LeBron played like a potato (especially Chalmers who was a wildcard for the Heat)

The Spurs came prepared. Their passing was the best I have ever seen.

San Antonio depth players like Diaw and Mills showed up big time.

The Spurs are a really good team.

Edit: And Ginobili played well in 2014 after his awful performance in 2013. He is the facilitator of the Spurs offense and bench.

From the field in general. In one game we went something like 14/16 in a quarter. It was like watching a video game.

To add to that, Heat was also getting old and didnt improve much in the offseason (got Beasley and Odem wich didnt work out)

Lewis, Ray and Battier didnt play a game after that finals and Birdman was 35

Lebron went 28,2 ppg on 57-52-79 shooting (67,9% TS), thats pretty bonkers tho

THIS. Most of the bench was on the verge of being out of the league. Most of the guys that you listed had gone from quality role players / low-level starters to bench warmers in the year after the Heat beat the Spurs.

Obviously they were tired. That"s like almost 100 games per season for 4 years. And this isn"t baseball where 90% of those games are just standing around and waiting. These guys are constantly running up and down the court.

How could they have possible not been tired? What kind of question even is this?

HEAT were kind of at the end of their run. Multiple reporters (Lowe included) have talked about how the post game locker room was one of the weirdest locker rooms he"s been in. They just lost the Finals but he said everyone"s main emotion seemed to be relief instead of dissapointment/sadness. They were in their 4th straight Finals after already winning 2 and being the center of attention for 4 years. That just wears on you and the old guys weren"t that hungry anymore.

I remember watching at the time thinking this is going to change basketball. Obviously the game had already been changing but to watch it culminate in that years Finals with every Spur in complete sync in mind, body, spirit, philosophy, effort and intensity with each other was a sight to behold. You could really see how each player was a cog in a well oiled machine. Even the movement away from the ball and cuts were mesmerizing. I don"t believe team basketball could be played at a higher level.
