Facebook創始人馬克·扎克伯格可以說是哈佛最成功的輟學生之一，美國當地時間5月25日，這位「輟學生」終於拿到學位，畢業了！

Mark Zuckerberg returned Thursday to Harvard, where he launched Facebook and then dropped out.

當地時間周四，馬克·扎克伯格重返哈佛大學，在這裡他創辦了Facebook，之後輟學。

小扎激動地在自家網站曬出了畢業照，並寫道：

Mom, I always told you I d come back and get my degree.

媽，我一直和你說，我會回來拿到學位的。

小扎除了拿到榮譽法學博士學位（an honorary Doctor of Laws degree）之外，還被邀請在哈佛大學第366屆畢業典禮上向畢業生髮表演講。

雖然見過大場面，但是開講前的扎克伯格還是顯得很緊張……

這次，小扎很正式地穿了西裝，上台前整理衣服整理了好久……

演講開頭，小扎不忘抖包袱，談及輟學經歷，搞起了自黑。

I m honored to be with you today because, let s face it, you accomplished something I never could. If I get through this speech, it ll be the first time I actually finish something at Harvard.

今天能和你們相聚這裡，我倍感榮幸。因為說實話，你們完成了一件我完不成的事兒。不過要是今天演講順利，這將會是我第一次在哈佛真的做完一件事。

But my best memory from Harvard was meeting Priscilla.

She s the most important person in my life, so you could say it was the most important thing I built in my time here.

和大家開了些輕鬆的玩笑、撒了把狗糧後，扎克伯格切入演講正題——目標（purpose）。

作為「千禧一代」，他沒有講如何發現自己的目標，而是站在更高的角度，告訴大家發現目標是不夠的，這代人要創造一個世界，幫助每個人發現自己的目標。

Today I want to talk about purpose.

今天我想談談目標。

I m here to tell you finding your purpose isn t enough.The challenge for our generation is creating a world where everyone has a sense of purpose.

我在這裡要說的是，僅僅發現你自己的目標是不夠的。我們這代人面臨的挑戰，是創造一個人人都能有目標感的世界。

Purpose is that sense that we are part of something bigger than ourselves, that we are needed, that we have something better ahead to work for.Purpose is what creates true happiness.

目標讓我們感覺自己屬於大於自身的一部分，感覺自己是被需要的，感覺前方有更好的東西等著我們去為之奮鬥，目標能創造真正的快樂。

To keep our society moving forward, we have a generational challenge -- to not only create new jobs, but create a renewed sense of purpose.

為了保持社會的進步，我們肩負時代的挑戰，不僅僅要創造新的工作，還要創造新的目標。

A change in the world that seems so clear you re sure someone else will do it. But they won t. You will.

世界的改變是顯而易見的，你覺得很多人都將行動起來，然而行動起來的不是他們，而是你。

But it s not enough to have purpose yourself.You have to create a sense of purpose for others.

但是，光有個人目標是不夠的。你必須為他人創造出目標感。

他給出三種方式，以此共同創造一個人人都有目標感的世界。

做有意義的事

每代人都有做出了屬於自己時代的偉大事情，你可能覺得無從下手，但是沒有人從一開始就知道怎麼做。

Ideas don t come out fully formed. They only become clear as you work on them.You just have to get started.

沒有人的想法從一開始就是完美的，只有當你著手做的時候才變得逐漸清晰，你只需要開始行動起來就行了。

If I had to understand everything about connecting people before I began, I never would have started Facebook.

如果在開始前我就必須知道如何把人與人聯繫在一起，我就不會創辦Facebook了

做有大願景、大情懷的事情可能會不被理解，你要做好心理準備。

It s good to be idealistic. But be prepared to be misunderstood.Anyone working on a big vision will get called crazy, even if you end up right. Anyone working on a complex problem will get blamed for not fully understanding the challenge, even though it s impossible to know everything upfront. Anyone taking initiative will get criticized for moving too fast, because there s always someone who wants to slow you down.

其實，理想主義是好事，但你要做好被誤解的準備。胸懷大志的人都會被稱為瘋子，即使你最終獲得成功。你想解決複雜的問題，別人就會說你不自量力，即便你不可能事先了解一切。任何先行一步的人都會因為步子太快而受到批評，因為總是有人想讓你慢下來。

In our society, we often don t do big things because we re so afraid of making mistakes that we ignore all the things wrong today if we do nothing. The reality is, anything we do will have issues in the future. But that can t keep us from starting.

在社會中，我們並不經常做一些了不起的事，因為我們害怕犯錯。如果我們什麼都不做，我們就忽視了今天所有的問題。事實上，我們做的任何事情將來可能都會有問題。但這不能阻止我們開始。

Let s do them all in a way that gives everyone in our society a role. Let s do big things, not only to create progress, but to create purpose.

J.K.羅琳在出版《哈利波特》之前被拒絕了12次，即使碧昂絲也不得不在數百首歌曲之後，才有了今天Halo這首歌獲得的光環。最大的成功來自於我們享有失敗的自由。

Every generation expands its definition of equality.Previous generations fought for the vote and civil rights. They had the New Deal and Great Society.Now it s our time to define a new social contract for our generation.

每一代人的成長都擴大了平等的定義。前幾代人爭取投票權和民權，於是他們爭取到了羅斯福新政和「偉大社會」（1964年，美國總統約翰遜的施政目標）。現在到了我們為這一代人定義新的社會契約的時候了。

We should have a society that measures progress not just by economic metrics like GDP, but byhow many of us have a role we find meaningful.

我們的社會不應該光憑GDP這樣的經濟指標來衡量進步，更應該看有多少人發揮了有意義的作用。

And as technology keeps changing, we need to focus more on continuous education throughout our lives.

隨著技術的不斷變化，我們要更多地關注繼續教育，活到老，學到老。

And yes,giving everyone the freedom to pursue purpose isn t free.People like me should pay for it. Many of you will do well and you should too.

是的，賦予每個人追求目標的自由，這並非不需要代價。像我這樣的人應當為此付費。在你們之中，許多人將來都會做得很好，當然，你們也應該為之付費。

不過，這樣的付出，並不局限於金錢，人們也可以花一些時間去幫助別人，創造更多可能性。

But it s not just about money. You can also give time.

We can all make time to give someone a hand. Let s give everyone the freedom to pursue their purpose -- not only because it s the right thing to do, but becausewhen more people can turn their dreams into something great, we re all better for it.

花一點時間，去幫助其他人，這點每個人都可以做到。通過此舉，每個人都有實現人生目標的自由——不僅因為這樣做是正確的，更因為當人們可以把夢想變為偉大的現實時，我們每個人都會變得更好。

建立社群

Purpose doesn t only come from work. The third way we can create a sense of purpose for everyone is by building community. Andwhen our generation says "everyone", we mean everyone in the world.

目標不僅來自於工作。去創造目標感的第三種方式是建立社群，而當我們這一代人說「每個人」的時候，我們指的是世界上的每一個人。

Every generation expands the circle of people we consider "one of us".For us, it now encompasses the entire world.

每一代人都擴大了我們認同的「自己人」。對我們來說，現在這指的是整個世界。

要解決全球性的大問題，沒有任何一個國家可以「單打獨鬥」。

We get that our greatest opportunities are now global-- we can be the generation that ends poverty, that ends disease. We get that our greatest challenges need global responses too -- no country can fight climate change alone or preventpandemics. Progress now requires coming together not just as cities or nations, but also as a global community.

對我們來說現在最大的機會是全球性的。我們可以成為終結貧窮和消除疾病的一代人。但同時也意識到我們面臨的巨大挑戰也需要全球性的協作。沒有一個國家可以單獨應對氣候變化或預防全球性瘟疫。要想取得進步不能靠單個城市或國家，更需要團結全球。

pandemics：流行病

目前我們處在一個不穩定時期，有人搞孤立主義，反對全球化，所以要建立社群去應對。

This is the struggle of our time. The forces of freedom, openness and global community against the forces of authoritarianism, isolationism and nationalism. Forces for the flow of knowledge, trade and immigration against those who would slow them down.This is not a battle of nations, it s a battle of ideas.

這是我們時代的掙扎。自由、開放和全球社群與權威主義、孤立主義和民族主義勢力相抗衡；知識流動、貿易和移民與一切想要放緩步調的力量相對抗。這不是一場國家之間的鬥爭，而是一場思想的鬥爭。

It s going to happen at the local level, when enough of us feel a sense of purpose and stability in our own lives that we can open up and start caring about everyone.The best way to do that is to start building local communities right now.

當我們對生命中的目標感和穩定感有足夠的認知，我們可以開始關心其他人時，這將從基礎層面開始。最好的辦法是從立刻開始建立當地社群。

We all get meaning from our communities.Whether our communities are houses or sports teams, churches or music groups, they give us that sense we are part of something bigger, that we are not alone; they give us the strength to expand our horizons.

Change starts local.Even global changes start small -- with people like us. In our generation, the struggle of whether we connect more, whether we achieve our biggest opportunities, comes down to this -- your ability to build communities and create a world where every single person has a sense of purpose.

改變從地區開始。甚至可以說全球性的改變也是源自微小的事物，源自和我們一樣的人。在這個時代，我們的努力能否連接更多人和事，能否把握最大的機遇，都歸結於這一點——你是否有能力搭建社群並且創造一個所有人都能有目標感的世界。

Class of 2017, you are graduating into a world that needs purpose.It s up to you to create it.
