福田種在心胸上

我們現在做供養,往往以為是佛、菩薩需要這些。供養一些供品,然後求加持,像交易一樣。其實,並不是佛菩薩需要這些供養,而是眾生自己需要種福田。供養時一定要調整心態,心裡要明白:佛菩薩降臨接受供養,是悲憫我等眾生。若是這樣,第一可以對治自己的貪心和吝嗇心,第二可以給自己積累福德資糧和智慧資糧。

While we are making offerings, we always think that the Buddhas or Bodhisattvas need those offerings. We offer something then ask for blessings in return, which is just like doing a deal. Actually, it is not that the Buddhas or Bodhisattvas need those offerings, but the beings need to plant their field of merits. While making offerings we must adjust our minds and be clear that, it is because the Buddhas or Bodhisattvas pity us that they come and accept offerings. This way, firstly our greed and meanness can get overcome, and secondly our merits and wisdom can be accumulated.

給佛菩薩做供養不要勉強。「若是不做供養,佛菩薩會不會不高興?若是不做供養,我挺難為情的啊!我還是做點供養吧!」這些心態都是錯誤的。

Do not be reluctant while making offerings. 「If I do not make the offering, will the Buddhas or Bodhisattvas be unhappy? Without making offerings, I feel so embarrassed, so let me just do some offerings!」 Such kinds of attitude are all incorrect.

做供養的時候,我們要觀察有沒有對治自己的貪心和吝嗇心。不管是做供養,還是做布施,都是修施捨心,它是福德的根本,有施捨心才會有圓滿的福德。佛菩薩、大德高僧們的福報都是這樣修出來的——在他們的相續中,只有施捨心,沒有吝嗇心,「捨得捨得」,有舍才有得。

While making offerings, we must observe whether we are overcoming our greed and meanness. Either making offerings or practicing generosity is a practice of the mind of giving, and is the root of merits, only with which can there be consummate merits. The merits of the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and those eminent monks and siddhas have all been gained by practicing like that —in their continuities, there is only the mind of giving and no meanness. 「Give and get」, only with giving can there be getting.

但是凡夫不是這樣的。凡夫之所以不施捨,沒有別的原因,就是怕得不到。其實恰恰相反,你施捨了才能得到。同樣,放下了才能得到,隨緣了才能順利。放不下是因為怕得不到、怕失去。為什麼說凡夫愚痴顛倒?就是因為凡夫不明白這些,做不到這些。

But the ordinaries are not like this. The reason why they do not give is just that they are worried about not getting, nothing else. But the fact is just the opposite, only after you have given then can you get. Similarly, only after you have detached then can you receive, and only when you can follow karma can there be smoothness. Not being able to let it go is because of the fear of losing or not getting. Why is it said that the ordinaries are ignorant and perverted? Just because the ordinaries do not understand this and cannot make it.

凡夫所做的都是相反的。已經得到的放不下,怕失去;未得到的想得到,拚命地去追求。其實,你心裡放下了,心態放開了,才不會失去,才不會捨棄,才會獲得未得到的一切。「隨緣才能順利」,而我們都不隨緣,都在攀緣。因為什麼?就怕不順利、不圓滿。其實不用擔心害怕,你隨緣了就順利了,隨緣了就圓滿了。

What the ordinaries do is just in the opposite way. Unable to let go of what has been got, fearing of losing; eager to get what has not yet been got, endeavoring in pursuing. Actually, only when you can let it go and open your mind, can you not lose, not give up, and get what has not yet been got. 「Smoothness comes only when you can follow the karma」, but all of us are not following the karma but clinging to them. Why? Right because of the fear of adversities and imperfection. Actually there is no need to worry, for whenever you can follow the karma, you will get smoothness and perfection.
