12.吠舍供養吉祥草

菩提迦耶東門角，有一個小村莊，叫尤婁頻啰。村裡有一個孩子叫傅悉底。他的出身很低，屬於最貧賤的「不可接觸者」階層。一年四季住在村外。他的工作是為別人照看水牛和割草。

一天中午，他正在一片草地上為牛準備夜間的草料，一男子從遠處走來。根據規矩，他要停下手中的活，靜候男子離去。就在他站起來準備致敬時，發現來者是一位修行人。

傅悉底也曾想過出家修行，但是，他除了做賤民和乞丐，無權選擇其他的行業。不過，他對修行人從內心裡充滿恭敬，因為他們從沒有鄙視過他。

修行人越走越近。傅悉底想，「我要做一次供養」。可是，他一無所有。就在他不知如何是好時，修行人已來到他的身邊，並且還向他施了一個禮。這是傅悉底從沒有遇到過的。他既激動又不安。

傅悉底低頭還禮，順便從地上抓起一把紫衣草（Reineckia carnea 百合科，又名吉祥草，多年生常綠草本植物），舉過頭頂，交到修行人手裡，算是他對這位修行人的恭敬和供養。

修行人接過紫衣草，把它帶在身上，繼續前行。這個修行人就是悉達多太子。後來，他把這把草鋪在菩提樹下的金剛座上，太子就是坐在這把草上開悟成佛的。

再後來，佛陀在鹿野苑初轉法輪，傅悉底投奔過去，皈依佛陀，修成羅漢。
