I didn"t see many people suggesting he should. He"s a non-shooting big with a pretty significant injury history. Even if he was only offered something in the $13-14m/yr range, the amount of money he"d have to make on his next contract to make up for the ~$10m or so lost this year seems unrealistic given that money is drying up and there are a lot of good free agents next year.

It"s a huge risk that doesn"t seem likely to pay off.

Everyone is focused on Noel"s limitations, but to me I see a guy who could be a prototypical modern 5 on a contender.

Sure, he can"t shoot, but he can block shots, guard the pick and roll, finish at the rim. Picture him playing with an elite offensive guard of some sort - he"d be great at it.

And I"m all for shooting, but you don"t really need five shooters. There"s always room for one guy near the hoop or setting screens and rolling to the hoop.

He turned down 4/70. That"s a lot of money. He"d have to get 100+ offers next year to make it worth it imo. And I don"t see that happening.

It"s an awkward situation. He"s a great player but I understand why the Mavs wouldn"t want to bid against themselves or offer the contract he wanted. At the same time, I"m sure he"s feeling bad he didn"t get the deal he wanted and will likely leave next season. If he as a great year this year, he"ll get a good payday next off season.

His second year he was forced to play out of position at PF to accommodate a lesser player in Okafor. His third year he was forced to come off the bench for Embiid, and then again for a tanking team in Dallas. He will dominate if given starter minutes at center. Dallas will regret letting him take the QO.
