靠一封Thank-you Email力挽狂瀾拿Offer,也不是沒可能

在和心儀的她/他聯繫上後,等消息回復的夜晚,你是如何度過的呢?

「已經半個小時了,他還沒回我,他是不是對我沒興趣?」

「她今天發了個莫名其妙看不懂的朋友圈,是在暗示我什麼嗎?」

「昨天大家一群人吃火鍋的時候,他跟旁邊的女生一直打鬧,他是不是對她有意思?」

「她剛說去洗澡了,是真的去洗澡了,還是敷衍我的呢?」

......

切到面試後的場景,就變成了:

「面試官說有結果通知我,是不是已經沒戲了?」

「我給HR小姐姐發了兩封郵件催面試結果,會不會引起她反感啊?」

「我已經發了Thank You Letter兩天了,卻杳無音訊,是不是被刷了?」

.....

於是,在寂寞的夜冰冷的床,耳機里播放著傷感的情歌,你不由覺得自己是世界上最悲慘的女(男)孩

咳咳咳,其實這些狀況真沒那麼玄乎吶。他沒回復你就是去忙工作了,發的朋友圈只是抒發一下情緒,旁邊的女生是他表妹但你卻不敢開口問他們的關係,洗澡也是真的去洗澡了!知道了背後真相,會不會覺得那個夜裡悲傷的不能自已的自己瞬間像個笑話

面對愛情是這樣,面對面試,更是。大家都知道,面試後回到家中,應該給面試官寫一個Thank-you email,再次提醒對方你對於應聘崗位的興趣,也算是一個最後機會"推銷"自己。加上,留學生英文口語大多比Native Speakers弱,為了彌補面試中口語表達的不足,就更應該重視這個面試後的Thank-You Note。

一個漂亮的Thank-you email,可以使你從眾多面試者中突圍而出,不僅有利於加強你的面試官對你的認可,甚至還能在面試後起到「扭轉局面」的作用,成為你獲得Offer的關鍵因素。對於面試機會表示感恩是非常重要的,記得這個郵件需要以正面的角度去寫。

然而,大部分求職者的Thank-You Note都有一個通病:過長或過短,結構和用詞落入俗套,內容乾癟,僅僅是直接或間接地重複resume的內容。這樣的Thank-you email不如不寫,因為它可能產生面試官對你的負面影響,覺得你不專業、不知道輕重,連這麼簡單的郵件都不懂的寫,反而扣分。

一位美國知名企業的招聘官說,每逢招聘季,他們都會收到不少這種「有問題」的Thank-you email或是Thank-you note(手寫郵寄),基本上他們不會去讀完整篇,紙質的甚至直接丟進廢紙簍。

怎樣才能寫出不會被直接丟進廢紙簍的Thank-you email?寫Thank-you email並沒有固定模版,而要根據你的具體面試情況調整。以下是幾個Tips:

重申你的強項、優勢

Thank-you email 是一個非常好的機會提醒面試官你的強項和素質是如何跟應聘崗位和公司的招募需求吻合。你可以先清晰無誤地列明你對該職位及其職責範圍的理解,並且有信心能完成對方或是你未來老闆的工作要求。

然後根據你所理解的職責範圍(可以再三確認崗位的Job description),你可以在此針對性「促銷」你的軟技能soft skills(communication skills, personal skills etc.)和硬技能hard skills(技術軟體操作能力、相關實踐經歷等等)。如同在面試中回答behavioral questions一樣,在推銷自己時可以舉一個簡短例子。

展現跟對方吻合的理念和價值觀

大部分跨國企業,面試者非常多,而到了面試那關可能每個人擁有的軟硬技能、經驗也差不多,單憑簡歷上的信息是不夠區分優秀人才。

但是,你可以透過展示你的理念、工作方式、你的價值觀、你的獨特經驗等方面,真誠表達你已經在思考如何為公司所在招募中的團隊提供你獨有的價值。你可以利用在面試對話中發現的招聘官或是你未來老闆的共同之處,更深一步地溝通感情、建立rapport。共同之處可以是shared vision、philosophy、workstyle等等。

同時,如果對方(面試官)在面試中提及到他的工作成績或事業成就,你可以在郵件里表示讚賞,證明你有認真聽他的分享,這樣的認可也可以讓他對你留下一個好的印象。但記得要發自真誠,恰到好處。切忌說過頭話。

讓對方對你產生一種感情上的共鳴,這樣可以使其在作招聘決定時選擇你。

「挽救」面試中的不足表現

對自我感覺在面試中發揮不太理想的人來說,就更應該寫好這個Thank-you email。這裡指的表現不好,不是指你忘了帶笑容,忘了跟對方握手的儀態上的個別問題,而是因為個人原因在整個面試中沒有一個良好的狀態。

如果你在面試中對於某個問題有不懂的回答或是回答有錯誤,你也可以在面試後尋查解答方法,然後簡單提及一下你會如何解答面試中的一條問題。這樣能在此展現你的積極性,展現你在工作場景中力求把被安排給你的任務完成好的一種態度。

郵件的格式及注意事項

郵件標題寫什麼:Thank you for the [Job Title] position interview on [date]

什麼時候發:

面試後的24-48小時

如果你的面試在早上,你可以在當天的End of day之前發;

如果你的面試在下午,你可以在第二天(business day)的早上發,確保對方可以上班第一時間看到,不過如果你的面試在周五下午,最好也是當天晚上就發出去,免得等到周一隔太久(有些Recruiter可能周末也會查看郵件)

一定使用跟你簡歷上面同樣的名字和郵箱去發,這樣可以快速讓對方辨識你是哪位應聘者

以下是幾個範例供收藏:

典型的模版(全職):

Good [morning/afternoon][Name],

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me this morning about the XXX position at ABC firm. It was a pleasure meeting with you, and I truly enjoyed learning more about the role and the company. After our conversation, I am confident that my skills and experiences are a great match for this opportunity. I am very enthusiastic about the possibility of joining your team and would greatly appreciate a follow-up as you move forward with the hiring process.

If you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me by email or phone.

Thanks again, and I hope to hear from you in the near future.

典型的模版(實習):

Dear [Name]:

I appreciate you taking the time to speak to me about the internship position available at Jones Corporation. I am excited about the opportunity to intern with such a well-regarded organization.

The internship, as you presented it, seems to be an excellent match for my skills and interests. I am confident that my coursework in accounting will enable me to be a productive member of the team. In addition to my enthusiasm, I will bring to the position a willingness to learn, both about the company and the accounting field.

如果你在面試中表現不足:

Dear [Name],

Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with me. I enjoyed speaking with you, and I feel that the position would be a great match for my academic and professional background and my skill set.

However, I am not sure my interest and enthusiasm for the job translated in our interview today. I have been feeling under the weather this week and don t think I was able to express my aptitude for the job.

I wanted to take the time to reassure you that I believe my sense of initiative, high level of motivation, and positive attitude make me a prime candidate for this position. I m not sure if that came across during the interview.

If you would like to arrange another time to meet, I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you again.

BONUS: 如果你的面試是通過Referral獲得的,記得在面試之後也給推薦你的人發一個Thank-you email

再次說明,Thank-You Letter沒有固定寫法,要具體問題具體分析,要充分發揮你的寫作才能。要邏輯嚴謹、用詞得當、結構清晰,千萬不能有語法和拼寫錯誤(Double check, triple check!)。
