TBF Phil never wanted Melo to play the 4. D"antoni was the one who thought Melo could be a great 4 next to Tyson. After Melo refused and Pringles was fired, Woodson was forced to play Melo at the 4 after a Stoudemire injury. Thats how our 55+ win season+playoff run happened. Then Melo insisted on returning to his favored position and the Knicks returned to irrelevance.

Also, he played plenty of 4 in his early Knick days when they actually had shit to play for. He stopped putting his body in harms way when it was clear the team couldn"t contend for even HCA in round 1, much less a CF appearance

That and they also had Noah at the 5 anyway. Eventually he will have to play. I think they have Hernangomez who I"ve read is pretty good and will probably play that now too. So KP has to stay at 4, and I think both he and the Knicks prefer him there anyway.

Melo at the 4 especially next to Adams at the 5 is very good defensively. Melo has trouble with faster 3s, but 4s are usually slower and he should be fine defending. Also of course that puts PG13 at the 3, and he is stellar defensively, especially being able to lock in on that with Russ-Melo-PG13 taking the offensive load.

I think people are crazy to think they won"t be a great defensive team. They have 3 great defenders. You can hide 2 lesser defenders easily with 3 great defenders, especially since they have perimeter, rim protection and mid-range speed covered between those 3.

那時候尼克斯也是只有諾阿打中鋒，甜瓜最終還是要打大前。不過我那時覺得埃爾南戈麥斯挺有潛力，八成以後是尼克斯首發中鋒。所以波神還是會打大前，這樣尼克斯和波神也都開心。

尤其是當甜瓜在亞當斯身邊打大前的時候對防守端是極好的。甜瓜防不住那些速度快的小前，大前動作一般都遲緩些，甜瓜防他們應該沒啥問題。還有泡椒當然會打小前，尤其是在三巨頭都在場一起分擔進攻端的壓力時，泡椒會是一道防守大閘。

那些認為這支雷霆防守不行的人腦子怕是進了水。他們有三個出色的防守者。三個好的防守球員可以幫另外兩個防守不太行的填坑，尤其是他們仨能同時防外線，保護籃筐和中距離迅速補防。

not to mention that russ has all the tools to be an effective defender (i believe he was a college DPOY). and melo is solid post defender so that should help too, hes just poor on the perimeter

l dont know why people are downvoting you westbrook was seen as a very capable defender with the assets to be a very capable scorer. l am like 95% sure westbrook could be a top 5 defensive point guard if he didnt have to average 30ppg

Yes. This is great to hear. He plays well at the Olympics, where he spends a lot of time at the 4. He"s more suited to that then being the 3 nowadays. I think PG13 and Roberson will be solid wing defenders. Offensively, he won"t have to be too different. He already spots up a lot off-ball, stretching the floor.

KD has really come into his own defensively as a small-ball 4/5. He had impressive rim protection, (block % jumped 50% to a new career high), and better rebounding than ever before in his career (career high TRB%), but I don"t think he"s near elite as a wing defender.

His length bothers people, but he doesn"t have the same quickness and discipline to stay in front of guys like Kawhi, Klay, PG, or even Draymond. And it"s not really what he"s asked to do in the Warriors defensive scheme, where"s he"s much more of the weak side help defender.
