《野獸出沒的地方》

《野獸出沒的地方》

First Time

The night, Max wore his wolf suit and made mischief of one kind.

那天晚上，麥克斯穿上他的狼服，開始了惡作劇。

his mother called him "wild thing!"

媽媽罵他：「野獸！」

and Max said "I ll eat you up!"

麥克斯說：「我要吃掉你！」

so he was sent to bed without eating anything.

結果媽媽沒讓他吃晚飯，把他關到了房間里。

It was in that night that Max s room grew a woods.

正是在那天晚上，麥克斯的房間里長出了一片樹林

and grew-and grew until his ceiling hung with vines

長啊長...直到天花板上掛滿了葡萄藤

and the walls became the world all around

牆壁消失在了世界的邊緣

An ocean tumbled by with a private boat for Max

海上漂來了一艘小船

and he sailed off through night and day

他日夜航行

and in and out of weeks

一個星期又一個星期

almost over a yearto where the wild things are

幾乎用了一年的時間到了一個野獸出沒的地方

when he came to the place where the whild things are

當他來到這個野獸出沒的地方時

they roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth

野獸們發出了可怕的咆哮，磨著它們可怕的牙齒

"Do not move!" Max s eyes blinked, staring at their yellow eyes, and tame them with magic. They were all afraid, and regard him as the king of beasts.

「別動！」麥克斯的眼睛一眨也不眨，盯著它們的黃眼睛，用魔法馴服了它們。它們全都害怕了，把他當成了野獸之王。

Itmade hime king of all wild things.

現在他成了野獸之王

"And now," cried Max,"let the wild rumpus start!"

麥克斯喊：「現在，讓我們鬧起來吧！」

And Max the king of all wild things was lonely and wanted to be where someone loved

him best of all.

可是他這個野獸之王突然感到孤獨起來，想到一個被人愛的地方去。

Then all around from far away across the world he smelled good thing to eat

這時，從遙遠的世界的那一邊，飄來了好吃的東西的香味。

so he gave up being king of where the wild thing are.

他決定放棄在這個野獸出沒的地方當國王了。

But the wild thing cried,"Oh please don t go-we ll eat you up-we love you so!"

可是野獸們喊：「哦，請不要走——我們要把你吃掉——我們如此愛你！」

And Max said,"No!"

麥克斯說：「不！」

The wild things roared their terrible and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their theirterrible eye and showed their terrible claws

野獸們發出可怕的咆哮，磨著它們可怕的牙齒，轉動著它們可怕的黃眼睛，伸出了它們可怕的爪子。

but Max stepped into his private boat and waved good-bye

但麥克斯還是上了他的小船，揮手說再見了。

Hesailed back over a year

and in and out of weeks

然後他航行了一年，一個星期又一個星期

through a dayand into the night of his very own room

經過白天，又回到了他自己房間的那個夜晚

where he found his supper waiting for him

他發現他的晚飯正等著他

and it was still hot

而飯還是熱的。

故事簡單到不能再簡單，卻蘊含著張力。男孩從媽媽的管教逃離進入一個野獸世界，暢快地玩耍，受到野獸的擁戴。可是他卻覺得孤單。他需要真切的關懷和愛。儘管野獸們說愛他，威脅說要吃掉他，遠處的飯香還是把他帶領回家。「他想待在有人最愛自己的地方」 。

這本書繪出了每一個人成長的夢。在外面玩野了耍瘋了，有很多人愛你，但你還是會孤獨。人生最好的禮物，是在多年之後，把最初的自己，重新交還。
