你玩過魔方嗎？對於大多數人來說（包括我自己），魔方可能是一個兒時拋棄的討厭玩具。我們從來沒有去探尋過魔方背後的歷史發展。12歲的紐西蘭小朋友Harry也是一個魔方愛好者，與此同時，他也非常喜歡寫作。在這篇文章里，他為你解出魔方里的魔力。

It is a fascinating object.

這是一個讓人著迷的小玩意。

It"s hard to solve and many people throw it on the ground infrustration after hours of attempting to solve it.

它非常倔強；無數挑戰者在幾小時的糾結後，都只能把它仍在一旁。

I personally can solve the cube in about 40 seconds. Though now the world fastest cuber can solve the cube in under 5 seconds.

而對我來說，解開它只需要40秒。當然，世界上最厲害的高手5秒不到就能搞定。

Let"s go back first and see where all this began.

它就是魔方。讓我們先走進歷史，去它的起源一看究竟。

In 1974 a guy called Erno Rubik invented the Rubik"s Cube.

1974年，一個叫厄爾諾·魯比克的人發明了魔方。（英文里，魔方就叫做「魯比克方塊」）

A Rubik"s Cube is a three-layered cube with six different colours. There are 43,000,000,000,000 different combinations, but it can always be solved in 20 moves or less.

魔方是一個三層的立方體，六個面各有一個顏色。雖然一個魔方可以變幻出多達43萬億（也就是43後面12個0）種不同的組合，但不管如何變幻莫測，它都能在20步以內被解出來。

Erno first solved it in a whopping three months and now the world record is 4.59 seconds. Over the past 30 years, the times of solving the cube have been decreasing and decreasing.

最初嘗試解魔方時，連魔方的發明人厄爾諾都糾結了整整3個月；而到了今天，解魔方的世界紀錄只有短短4.59秒。在過去的30年里，解魔方的最短時間都在不斷的降低。

Competitions have been since June 5, 1982, the first world championship, held in Budapest, Hungary. The world record back then was 22seconds.

最早的一次世界魔方大賽於1982年的6月5號在厄爾諾的老家匈牙利布達佩斯舉行，當年的世界記錄還是22秒。

I think that the Rubik"s cube is really cool.

在我眼裡，魔方充滿了魔力。

It really tests your mind and your patience. You should really try to get a cube and try to solve it. Try to solve it and think of a way to get the cube in shape and work out the way that the puzzle works.

它訓練你的大腦、磨鍊你的耐心。我非常推薦你去試試解解它，試著去解出不同的花樣、不同的謎題，用你的智慧解出魔方蘊含的魔力。

After you can look up a tutorial. Lots of kids in my school are trying to solve the cube and they"re doing a great job.

淺嘗之後，你可以去找找魔方的教程。我同校的很多同學都在網上學習解魔方，他們的投入也產生了很高的回報。

If you think about it, Erno Rubik took 3 months to solve iton his own with no instruction manual! I challenge you to try that.

想想看，厄爾諾在完全獨立、沒有解說的情況下，花了3個月把魔方解了出來！你也可以這樣挑戰挑戰自己的耐心。

It doesn"t stop there though.

不過，魔方的魔力還不止於此。

There are now Rubik"s cubes with two layers instead of three. Also, ones with four and ones with five all the way up to 17. These cubes are much harder.

現在，除了常見的3層魔方，還有2層、4層、5層，一直到17層的超級魔方。那些魔方，魔力更強。

Now in 2018, I entered my first competition. I did pretty well for my first competition and had a great time. I really suggest that you try out the annoying but fun Rubik"s Cube.

最近，我參加了人生中的第一次魔方決賽。對於第一次來說，我的表現還是挺不錯的；更重要的是，我享受了魔方給我帶來的快樂。

強烈建議你去試試那討厭但好玩的魔方。

從3個月到4.59秒，這就是時間的力量。當我們不斷迭代、不斷積累時，曾經幾十噸重的計算機就可能變得輕若鴻毛，曾經不可能的任務就可能變得輕鬆簡單。在魔方的樂趣里，Harry還體驗到了這時間的力量。相信他的寫作，也能與時間一同成長。
