外媒尬聊狗年，剛說到屬狗的年份就算不清了……談起「本命年犯太歲」也是話風清奇

一過年談及生肖，外國小夥伴就「慌亂」，2015年糾結羊年的「羊」到底是Goat還是Sheep；2017雞年，糾結到底是Chicken、Rooster、Hen還是Cock。

2018年狗年，簡單明了「 the Year of the Dog」，沒毛病。

然而，外國小夥伴又開始糾結別的問題了。日前，英國《獨立報》發表了一篇題為《2018中國新年：狗年的真正含義》的文章，作者為David Barnett 。

文章中，作者David因為自己屬狗，今年本命年而開始憂心，聽說「本命年」犯太歲。

今年是狗年！我的本命年！

It』s the Year of the Dog! That』s my birth year!

David說，可是我完全沒法歡呼雀躍呀~

隨後我發現我心有戚戚然是有原因的。正如我所想，這根本不是一個好兆頭。十二生肖循環往複，如果你的出生屬相與本年的生肖動物一致，實際上是非常不好的。

It was only later I found out why. Rather than being a good omen, as I』d assumed, the dominant Chinese zodiac year for those whose birthdates match up to the animal in the 12-year cycle is actually very unlucky indeed.

後來，這位小夥伴又認真研究了下中國年的演算法。驚奇發現，他屬雞，心情豁然開朗。

好在故事有個好結局。中國年2月16號開始，我生日是在1月，所以，事實上我屬雞。

However, there is a happy end to this story – Chinese New Year begins on 16 February, and my birthday is in January, so I』m actually a rooster.

但是，熱心的David還是很仗義的，沒有因為自己突然屬雞就棄剩下屬狗的小夥伴於不顧。

他先是告訴了外國小夥伴，哪些人屬狗。但是，其實David自己也沒有搞清楚。

可是，剩下的小夥伴，如果你出生在1934年、1958年、1970年、 1982年、 1994年、 2016（應該是2006）年或者 2010的2月16日到來年的2月4日，這個時間段里......

For the rest of you, though, who were born between next Friday and 4 February 2019 in the years 1934, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2016 or 2010…

（大概David並不清楚，每年的農曆起始和結束時間都不一樣。不是每年我們都2月16過年哦~所以這樣定義是錯的。）

隨後他開始給屬狗的朋友們支招怎樣才能本命年不犯太歲，過上太平的生活。

哎~我勸你哈~在接下來的一年裡努力避開紅色，還要避開1、3、9這三個數字。

小編看完這些招式，開始懷疑自己是不是假中國人了。往年一到本命年，小編就把自己穿得跟紅燈籠一樣，紅襪子、紅內衣、紅腰帶，通紅通紅的，什麼時候開始講究避開紅色了？嚇唬本寶寶呢吧！

幸虧文章里的2016，讓小編重拾了作為一名中國人的自信。1994（狗年）＋12（生肖一輪）=2006（狗年）。寫出2016，這數學絕對不是中國老師教的。（難怪梅姨要親自來華引進中國數學教育......）

關於要本命年要避開1、3、9這三個數字，小編從未聽說過，但David講得不亦樂乎，還頗具英式幽默地舉了個例子，

如果你住倫敦，要長期乘坐139路公交車從Golders Green到Waterloo，砸重金買雙運動鞋吧，這樣更明智一些。（就因為139路公交車有1、3、9這三個數字！好冷）

So if you live in London and catch the 139 bus from Golders Green to Waterloo on a regular basis, it might be prudent to invest in a pair of walking boots.

小編簡單搜了下路線圖，感覺一雙運動鞋扛一年顯然不夠呀！

David突然驚醒，有一個大人物屬狗呀！犯太歲！

如果你是一名屬狗的寶寶，你不孤單！可能最有名的屬狗人士中當屬美國總統特朗普了。

If you are a dog, you』re not alone. Perhaps the most high-profile dog is none other than the US President, Donald Trump.

然後，英國《獨立報》找到一張太原廣場上的照片，指出這張照片上的狗狗也是金色的頭髮，稱雕塑的造型跟Potus (美國總統)驚人相似。（a striking resemblance to Potus）

當然，沒人會在狗年對唐納德·特朗普懷有惡意，況且，狗年也不一定意味著厄運。

Of course, you won』t be wishing ill on Donald Trump in the Year of the Dog, and to be fair, it doesn』t necessarily mean bad luck.

緊接著，David舉出了一系列名人的例子為狗年的小夥伴寬心，包括貓王、柯林頓。

比如，貓王，埃爾維斯·普雷斯利，出生在1935年1月，屬狗。他69年時東山再起，1970年本命年的時候再次聲名鵲起。

Take Elvis Presley, who weren』t nuthin』 but a hound dog despite being born in 1935 (he just squeaked in because, like me, his birthday was in January). After his big comeback in 1969, dog year 1970 was a big one for him as his re-booted reputation grew immensely.

跟特朗普一樣，比爾·柯林頓也曾在本命年，1994年，第一任期內，入住白宮一年，所以今年特朗普應該不會太糟。

Bill Clinton was, as is Trump, a year into what would turn out to be his first term of office in the White House in 1994, so he was probably not having too bad a year.

David還解釋了為何一向在中國文化中很受歡迎的貓為何不在十二生肖之列。

You might be thinking that notable by its absence is the cat, which is usually well represented in Chinese culture

故事要從混沌初分的遠古時代說起，玉皇大帝下令為十二地支選拔十二個屬相。於是，普召天下動物到他的宮殿去，第一批抵達的方可上肖。

Well, there is of course a story to that, for which we must go back to the far ancient times when the Jade Emperor decreed that the earthly calendar would be represented by 12 animals, and ordered the beasts and birds of the world to rock up to his palace, the first dozen getting the job.

那時候，貓和老鼠是很要好的朋友，他倆決定一同前往玉皇大帝的宮殿在十二生肖中爭得一席之地。

So the story goes, the cat and the rat were huge pals back in those days, and decided to journey together to the Jade Emperor』s palace to take up their places on the zodiac.

可是，很顯然，老鼠獨自前往，忘了叫醒熟睡的貓（當然，如果你相信......）。當小貓咪終於從床上爬起來時，他的老鼠朋友已經在路上了。

But apparently the rat forgot to wake up his friend (yeah, right, if you believe that…) and set off on his own. When the kitty finally dragged itself out of bed, friend rat was well on his way.

這就算了，老鼠還結識了一些新朋友，尤其是公牛，他同意讓老鼠在他的背上一起度過漫漫長路。

Not only that, but he』d made some new pals, notably the ox, who agreed to carry the rat on his back on the long journey.

一到玉皇大帝的宮殿，老鼠歡欣雀躍，跳下來，第一個穿過大門。

Once they got to the Jade Emperor』s palace, the rat was all like, yeah, cheers for the ride, hopped off and was the first one through the gates.
