To be honest, it was fair. When you see headlines like this(http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2756020-lebron-james-stephen-curry-say-nba-all-star-draft-should-have-been-televised): it makes it seem like the NBA is even more soft and trying to create a safe space. In other words, Silver was taking full blame for something that was discussed amongst the stars.

Nah, his job is to keep the blame off the NBA and its owners. The owners were thinking "hey we are being painted like idiots here," so Silver shifted the blame onto a player in a way that says "hey it wasn"t our (the league/owners) idea" at the same time as showing a sign that he will listen to players when making some decisions, which serves as political points. Seems like he did his job masterfully here.

I think this is most right answer. And I don』t think there』s necessarily anything wrong with that. These dudes play basketball year round with each other. They all know how good each of them are. The 「right」 thing to say is that you』ll pick all your teammates first, but in reality you probably want to have the best shot at winning (if they do play hard this year, still waiting to see if that』ll be the case).
