How did you guys spend the Qingming holiday?

清明假期大家都做什麼了呢？

It has been so chilling in Beijing, so I stayed at home for most of the time.

今年北京的倒春寒有些猛烈，我基本都宅了。

One of my pastime activities was watching, again, the well-acclaimed documentary on Chinese artifacts,If National Treasures Could Talk.

利用這段時間，我重溫了廣受好評的《如果國寶會說話》。

I like the program very much. Every episode lasts only five minutes, but it is informative and well arranges various objects under specific themes. The narratives and the underscore are well composed.

很喜歡這部紀錄短片呢。每集雖然只有5分鐘，但信息量豐富，鮮明的主題很好地把不同的文物串了起來。解說詞和配樂同樣精彩。

The documentary features collections at a dozen of museums and cultural institutions across the nation. Many objects are on permanent display, for example, during a recent visit to the National Museum of China, I saw several shown at the Ancient China exhibition.

片子里提到的文物來自全國各大文博機構的館藏，不少是長期陳列品。我最近一次去國博參觀，就在地下一層的古代中國陳列上找到了幾件出鏡"大咖"。

人面魚紋彩陶盆

This painted pottery basin bears one of my favorite patterns. The drawing is simple but animated, especially a pair of patterns each of which combines a human face and fishes, showing a primitive worship of fishes.

很喜歡這件陶盆上的彩繪。線條簡樸而不失靈動，尤其是一對結合了人面和魚的紋飾，能看出對魚的原始崇拜。

The basin is believed being used as a cover of a child"s funerary urn.

這個陶盆被認為是當時用來埋葬夭折兒童的瓮棺棺蓋。

It belongs to the Yangshao Culture that dated to between 3,000 and 5,000 BC. It was unearthed in Banpo village near Xi"an, in 1955.

陶盆屬於公元3000到5000年前的仰韶文化，於1955年出土於西安半坡村。

Many colored potteries of the Neolithic period also feature such elegant, classic designs, such as these eyebrow-like patterns on a double-handler jar of the Majiayao Culture:

不少新石器時期的彩陶都繪有類似古樸雅緻的紋飾，比如下圖這個馬家窯文化雙耳罐上的眉紋：

And this basin of the Yangshao Culture bears rhythmic geometrical patterns which evolved from birds and flowers.

下面這個仰韶文化陶盆上的幾何形紋路具有某種韻律感，由鳥和花卉的形狀演變而來。

The spiral patterns commonly seen on the Majiayao Cultural objects fascinate me deeply.

渦紋在馬家窯文化中比較常見，心中為這些美麗的紋路長出了一片草原。

鸛魚石斧彩陶缸

Primitive designs could be magical and as well adorable, such as this Yangshao jar painted with a white stork, a fish and a stone axe.

原始先民創造的紋飾既神秘，也有幾分可愛，比如這個畫了白鸛、魚和石斧的陶缸。

Look at its eye. Is it brimming with vigor, or simply cuteness?

看看鸛的眼睛，你覺著是炯炯有神呢？還是呆萌呢？

This jar is believed being used as a funerary urn of the leader of a clan which recognized the stork as their totem, while the caught fish in the stork"s mouth represents a rivalry clan. The axe symbolizes power.

這個陶缸被認為是某個氏族首領的瓮棺，白鸛是這個氏族的圖騰，而它嘴裡叼著的魚則是敵對氏族的圖騰；石斧代表權力。

Because of its historic and cultural importance, the jar is listed among precious artifacts that are prevented from exhibiting outside the country.

由於這件陶缸重大的歷史和文化價值，它被列入禁止出境展出的珍貴文物名單中。

And let us remember the name of its discoverer and first protector, Li Jian"an, a villager in Ruzhou, Henan province.

最後，讓我們記住它的第一發現者和守護者的名字，李建安, 河南汝州的一位普通農民。

鷹形陶鼎

This tripod pottery ding vessel, also from the Yangshao Culture, shows that primitive people not only painted beautifully but also, they sculpted skillfully.

這件三足陶鼎同樣出自仰韶文化，它的發現說明原始先民不僅能繪製美麗的紋飾，造型能力也很強。

「我萌嗎？」

It was excavated from a female adult"s tomb in Huaxian County, Shaanxi province, in 1958.

這件陶鼎於1958年出土於陝西華縣的一座成年女性墓。

The shape of ding continued to be adopted for bronze revisions, featuring much more sophisticated patterns, during the Shang and Zhou dynasties and the Warring States period.

鼎的器形在後面的商、周、戰國被延用，而且「升級」成為了紋飾更為複雜的青銅器。
