Spinning my wheels 原地打轉，沒有進展

Like a car stuck in mud, tospin one"s wheelsis to try to make progress, but get nowhere. 就像車輪陷在泥巴里，原地打轉，無法向前。

- I feek like I"m spinning my wheels at work. I try really hard but I haven"t been promoted in 3 years.

- 我覺得我的工作就是在原地不停地打轉，我很努力了，但3年沒有任何晉陞。

- I sat down to write my term paper, but after three hours realized I was just spinning my wheels.

Glass ceiling （女性，少數族群) 晉陞到高級職位的無形障礙

Women and minorities have had problems rising to the top jobs due to theglass ceiling. 玻璃天花板，看似通透，實則障礙，指社會上限制婦女或少數族群事業晉陞的無形的障礙，尤指傳統觀念上的歧視。

- Sarah should definitely be promoted, but I"m afraid there is a glass ceiling above her.I hope she can break through.

Plateau 瓶頸期

Aplateauis a stage where there is no further change or development. 原指高原，這裡指（心理上感覺不再有變化或進展的）穩定階段。

- I"ve been studying English for 2 years but I think I"ve reached a plateau. I don"t feel like I"m improving anymore.

- 我學英語2年了，感覺到了一個瓶頸期，沒什麼進步。

Stagnant/Stagnation 停滯不前

If something such as a business or society is stagnant, there is little activity or change，like astagnantpond. (經濟、社會等)停滯不前，如一潭死水。

- My boss keeps giving me the same projects again and again. I"m not learning anything and my career development has become stagnant.

- 老闆只是重複地派給我同樣的項目，我學不到什麼新的東西，事業停滯不前，就像一潭死水。

- For most people, the age of stagnation is when they get married and settle into a routine, and they stop growing.

- 對大多數人來說，步入婚姻開始安居樂業後就步入瓶頸期（凍齡點）了，停止自我成長。
