問：為什麼當今的社會災難越來越多？

答：物質是發達了，科技是發達了，但是人的慾望也膨脹了，都不滿足了，現在空氣被染污了，氣候變化了，地球撐不住了，這都是人類自掘墳墓。雖然以前科技沒有那麼發達，物質沒有那麼豐富，但是人們生活的非常開心，非常快樂，以前家家都會唱歌跳舞，現在沒有了，都在追求物質財富。現在雖然科技發達了，物質發達了，但是精神落後了，精神沒有跟上物質，物質的發展就變成了精神的壓力。佛在經中有記載，在末法時期，會出現戰爭、瘟疫和饑荒等災難。現在已經有預兆了。戰爭隨時都會爆發，國家與國家之間，人與人之間，雖然嘴上說和平，但是都有自己的私心，都有自己的慾望，為了達到自己的目的不擇手段。人與人之間也是只有利益沒有別的，互相都是這樣。這樣，這個社會能好嗎？社會沒有變，是人心變了。如果戰爭發生了，饑荒也會發生，瘟疫也會發生。現在空氣這麼差，環境這麼污染，能不發生瘟疫嗎？還有地震、海嘯隨時都會有，因為地球撐不住了，壓力太大了。地球是我們共同的家園，都知道這個道理，為什麼去破壞呢？為什麼明知故犯呢？那是沒有辦法。我們作為修行人，作為智者，就要勇敢面對。災難隨時都會發生，但是要隨時把握自己的心。心裡有所準備，世界末日是我們人類自己造成的，有一天肯定會到來。但如果我們自己心裡有所準備，就沒有什麼了。死亡並不可怕，若是你明白了死亡的真相，就不會害怕。因為我們的靈魂不會死，真正有修行的人就是換個軀殼，換個肉體，就像換件衣服一樣。對死亡無有恐懼，真正勇敢地去面對死亡的人，才是真正有修行的人，真正有成就的人。有些人講得很好，講的都是大道理，但是心裡對死亡沒有把握。若是真正要面對死亡的時候，心裡若是有恐懼，就不是一個真正的成就者。

所以，我們作為一個修行人，作為一個學佛人，作為一個喜歡做善事的人，應該盡量去改變，盡量不去染污環境，盡量不去破壞環境，盡量去克制自己的慾望。現在，剋制慾望是最重要，剋制個人的慾望，最重要的是克制國家慾望，這樣災難能緩一些，能少一些，大家盡量去做，去努力吧。

Guru answers: the material civilization is developed and the science and technology is advanced, but the people are still unsatisfied as the increasing of desire. Nowadays, the air is polluted and the climate has changed, and the earth can not hold, theses are all about man digging his own grave. Although the science and technology was not developed and material was not plenty in the past, the people lived a very happy life and every family used to sing and dance. Now people pursue the material fortune instead. Nowadays, although the science and technology is developed and the material civilization is advanced, the spiritual civilization fall behind. The development of spiritual civilization cannot catch up with material civilization, thus the material civilization become the pressure of the spiritual civilization. Buddha mentioned in the Sutra that in the degenerated time there are disasters such as war, plague and famine, etc.. There is the harbinger now. The war will break out at any time, between the countries and among the people, they just talk about peace but they have the selfish motives and desires to pursue their objects by all means. There is nothing but only the benefit between people. Thus, will the society be good? The society does not change but people』s mind changed. If the war breaks out, there will be the famine and plague as well. Now the air is such bad and the environment is polluted, can there be no plague? Moreover, the earthquake and tsunami will come up at any time because the earth won』t hold for the pressure is too huge. The earth is our common home, we all know this, why destroy it? Why do we do it knowingly? There is no way. As practitioners and wise men we should be brave to face it. The disaster may occur at any time and we must master our own mind in no time. We should prepare in the mind that the end of the world will surely come as it is created by ourselves-- the human beings. If we have prepared these in our mind, that would be fine. Death is not horrible. If you know the truth of the death, you will not be scared. Because our soul will not die, it is like to change a shell or a body as changing clothes for the real practitioners. The people who without fear and bravely facing the death, are the real practitioners and have the real achievement. Some people are good at talk about big theory, but have no assurance to face the death. If one has fear when facing death, he is not the real achiever.

Therefore, as the practitioners and Buddhists who prefer to making good deeds, we should try to change, try not to pollute the environment, try not to destroy the environment, try to restrain our desire. Nowadays, restraint is the most important. We should restrain personal desire, and the most important is that the nation』s desire is restrained, then the disasters can be delayed or reduced a little. Let』s try to do as more as possible. Do make effort.
