會議介紹
前言：太平洋是板塊構造運動的古老產物，它創造了地球上最大的生態區域。雖然航海者們很早便在其水域中探險，人類在其所有的海岸上繁衍，甚至深入其中，直抵夏威夷群島，然而直至16 世紀，其水體方作為一個整體被發現，並在全球尺度的地圖之上得以展示。自此，通過國際貿易、戰爭、文化交換、資源攫取，太平洋成為一個人與自然相互作用日趨頻繁之地。為促進國際學界對太平洋區域環境史的關注和理解，中山大學歷史學系、大洋洲研究中心聯合德國慕尼黑大學環境與社會研究中心及中國人民大學生態史研究中心在廣州中山大學南校區舉辦「太平洋世界的環境史」國際學術研討會。
Forward: The Pacific Ocean is the ancient outcome of plate tectonic movement, creating one of the largest eco-regions on earth. Although navigators explored those waters early on, and peoples spread to all the ocean"s shores and penetrated as far into the center as Hawaii, it was not until the 16th century that the great body of water was discovered as a whole and mapped at a global scale. Since then, the Pacific has become a place of increasing human-nature interaction-through international trade, warfare, cultural interchange, and extraction of resources. Our conference aims to bring that ocean more fully into the discourse of environmental historians. To promote the further research on the Environmental History of the Pacific, Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society (LMU), Department of History, Center for Oceania Studies (SYSU), and Center of Ecological History (RMU) co-sponsor the International Conference "Environmental History of the Pacific World" in Guangzhou, China.
