INTRODUCTION

導語

As a chemical compound, alcohol is always the same substance, but its appearance has changed so much, from the past to prensent, from on the paper to in the reality.

In both ancient and contemporary literature, the feelings are conveyed through a glass of wine. From between the lines on books the special aroma can even be sensed together with profound meanings that no words can express. Meanwhile, Chinese brewing techniques with a long history which enjoy great fame, creates the best wines whose scents always turn nicer after a hundred years in the storing cellar.

Nevertheless, something about alocohol has gone stale in modern society. With the reduction of its positive appearance as a poetic tolken, alcochol shows the spirit emptiness of addicts. What alcoholsim has brought to us is misfortune and sorrow. As teenagers, we are expected to stay as far as we can away from alcoholism.

Every coin has two sides, and there"s no exception when it comes to alcohol. To see the pros and cons of alcohol respectively, here comes the cooperation of the two of us: a completely informal debate in which there is no rivalry against the other"s opinion.

PRO SIDE

正方

Wine is a part of Chinese culture as well.

"Empty the last glass, my friend, for all you meet will be strangers on the way west." Face to face, they treasured the friendship in wine, hoping that their hearts could be with each other next time they drink.

"Wine of yellow vine in red soft hands, I drank it all by the high walls and willows in a warm spring day." Even though she was unreachable, their hearts were always together, connected by a glass of wine full of love and would never break apart.

Family is another idea. "While I am drunk, the country dialects are so perfect. My dear friends with white hairs, from where do you come?" Three generations got together for a feast, in which the old emptied their cups while younger ones tried a dip with chopsticks. The family were drunk, but happy.

Wine is what we called the faith of a patriot:"Swing the sword while I"m drunk, and blow the horn while I"m with my dreams."

Wine is what we called the desperate despression:"Times of hardships come as snow falls on my hair. So hopeless, for I"ve quitted drinking bitter wine."

Wine is what we called losing oneself in happiness:"Invite the moon for a drink. Dance with the shadow. Together there were three."

Wine is what we called the wisdom of life:"Cherish the happy minute now and do not leave the golden cup alone under the moon."

I am deeply attracted to the infinite meanings a glass of wine may contain. The ancestors had their endless feelings put into alcohol.

Let our imaginations about ancient times rest for a while. Nowadays, how many people find a glass of wine a home for their souls? It must be a great number. Staring at the wine of bitterness, they say that sorrow grows on liquor as plants grow on water. But is it really sorrow that grows while drinking? Not actually. It is the the fear of sorrow. I believe that fear itself is all that"s fearful, so there is no necessity of escaping the fear. Face the fear, and you"ll find that there"s nothing to be afraid of.

People live on liquor as it is a part of their lives. With their glasses empty, people just live today, not caring about the thunders and lightnings on the road ahead. I"ll end my statements with something I"ve learned from life. I had been high and I had been low, which made it more important not to take the love for granted. Every minute in my journey, there are always someone coming, someone quitting, and someone always there. For happiness, it is all about cherishing today and not being afraid of losing it. For life, be it satisfactory or not, I"ll persue happiness as always, with the sublime feeling of fear in my soul, and fill it with all my love.

CON SIDE

反方

In many cases, we didn"t know the existence of dangerous situations until we experience it. Having witnessed a dreadful accident, I eventually came to realise that a murderer is just around all of us.

As I walked along the road after school that night, I witnessed a tragedy that I will never forget for the rest of my life. The siren of the ambulance kept ringing in the quite night. I saw broken pieces mixed with blood on the ground, and fear on people"s faces. And in addition, I was told that the drunken driver had run to escape punishment.

Praying that the injured would be all right, I was caught in my deep thoughts over the question:"What was it that resulted in the tragedy?"

Without doubt, it was alcohol. Despite the popularity it presently enjoys, liquor causes me to wonder why it has such a great charm. Being an invisibble murderer that may lead to addiction and road accidents, alcohol is seldom absent in banquets, defeating its rivals such as the fragrant tea, the pure water as well as the sweet juice. However, every time I try to get a reasonable reply to my doubts from grown-ups, what I am told is usually that I am too young to know the answer.

Indeed, I am not an adult. I don"t know what the secret is when it comes to drinking alcohol, but I do know the fact that tens of thousand of lives fade due to drunken driving, and that a great number of families is losing their happiness all because of an alcoholic.

Once, I was in a project that aimed to find out what makes it difficult to remove smoking in China. From then on, I have never dared to under-estimate the negative effects posed by the society on every one of us.

I will show you three situations to exemplify my idea.

First, it is an elderly relative telling a young adult to empty his first glass of wine:"A real man drinks as much as he should."

Second, it is a man convincing his peers of their so-called friendship that urges them to empty their cups:"Bottom up, bottom up, and we"ll not think about tomorrow."

Third, it is a boss shouting at his "innocent" subordinates who try to keep their lips dry:"Spit on my face, or drink up your wine."

Some compares the negative influence the society has on everyone who follows the bad habits to fit in to sharing poison with each other. In this passage, I refer to liquor as the poison. Created by millions of Chinese, the culture of alcohol will get rid of its disadvantages with millions of Chinese pulling together. Please keep in mind that an individual is tiny enough to be neglected, but a hundred thousand individuals are strong enough to change the whole society.

I wish everyone the good fortune no to be drunk in this beautiful world. It"s so real, so charming and full of possibilites, making your heart, in every single minute, leap with excitement at its beauty.
