So, I use pictures.

先想像可以包含人類所有知識的一個圓：

Imagine a circle that contains all of human knowledge:

當你小學畢業的時候，你了解的知識沒有多少：

By the time you finish elementary school, you know a little:

當你中學畢業的時候，你掌握的知識稍微多了點：

By the time you finish high school, you know a bit more:

當你獲得學士學位的時候，你獲得了一項特長：

With a bachelor"s degree, you gain a specialty:

而碩士學位使得你的特長更加紮實：

A master"s degree deepens that specialty:

通過閱讀研究相關的論文你可以了解人類知識的邊緣所在：

Reading research papers takes you to the edge of human knowledge: 

當你處在人類知識的邊緣時，你就需要專註一點進行研究了：

Once you"re at the boundary, you focus:

你需要在這個邊緣地點進行數年的努力鑽研：

You push at the boundary for a few years:

直到有一天，你突破了邊緣的限制：

Until one day, the boundary gives way:

那時，你所完成的那個小突破（凹坑）就叫做「博士」：

And, that dent you"ve made is called a Ph.D.:

當然，此時你看到的世界與之前的感覺已經有了大不同：

Of course, the world looks different to you now:

所以，別忘記了整個圖景（不要以個人的經驗隨意擴大，勿認為你經歷的就是整個世界的樣子）：

So, don"t forget the bigger picture:

還需記得，即便拿到了博士學位，也要一直努力哈。
