【簡介】

Robert D. Drennan（中文名：周南）教授是享譽世界的考古學大師，美國科學院院士、匹茲堡大學傑出教授，曾擔任匹茲堡大學人類學系主任等職，現為該校比較考古研究中心主任、拉美考古出版中心負責人。先後獲得美國考古學會總統表彰獎、美國匹茲堡大學教務輔導獎等榮譽。

周南教授早年在墨西哥Oaxaca

周南教授主要研究方向為早期文明及社會複雜化比較研究、酋邦社會、考古學定量分析等，曾在中東、南美、中美洲和中國等地從事考古發掘和區域調查。近二十年來，周南教授及其團隊在中國東北地區赤峰和牛河梁等地持續開展區域系統調查和重點試掘等工作，對中外文明對比研究做出重要貢獻。

在區域調查的基礎上，周南教授對調查材料進行量化分析，確定社會複雜化的程度與分化方向，對世界範圍內不同複雜社會的發展軌跡、動因等問題進行跨文化對比研究，成就卓著。2013年首屆世界考古論壇上，周南教授主持的研究項目「複雜社會初始階段規律性的差異」被評為世界重大考古研究成果。

【講座摘要】

全球數百個地區都存在複雜模式的社會組織——「酋邦」，這些早期複雜社會各不相同的發展路徑為考古學家開展對比研究提供了獨一無二的機會。通過比較研究，探究不同人類群體發展路徑背後的社會推動力，可以更全面的了解人類社會的動態變遷。
