ZTE Shares Drop

Shares in Chinese technology company ZTE plummeted by 39% in Hong Kong when trading resumed after a two-month suspension. Several months ago, the US Commerce Department found that ZTE had violated trade agreements with certain countries. A ban was then placed on the company that prevented it from buying parts of US suppliers. This ban gave ZTE no choice but to suspend major operations, and trading was halted on 17 April. Just last week, the USreached a deal with ZTE to remove the ban – the company will have to pay a US$1billion penalty, change its management board and hire a US-approved compliance board.

Leading Chinese tech companies Tencent and Alibaba will move into the digital marketing business community. Tencent recently introduced a new digital marketing system at its headquarters in Shenzhen. The new system aims to bring great innovation to China』s digital marketing industry. Tencent is simply the latest in a recent wave of tech companies entering the digital marketing industry, which is already crowded with players such as Ogilvy & Mather and Burson-Marsteller. In 2017, Alibaba released a 「uni marketing」 system to obtain a presence in the industry.

Chinese Used Car Sector Grows

China』s used car market is finally starting to pick up pace. Until recently, buying used cars in China has been quite rare. In contrast, in most markets, sales of used vehicles outpace those of new ones byan extremely wide margin. Nearly 40 million used vehicles were sold in the US last year, compared to just 17 million new ones. On the other hand, in China, about 12 million used vehicles were sold compared to 29 million new ones. Now, in China, the used vehicle sector is growing much more quickly than the new vehicle sector.

Property sales on China』s resort island of Hainan have fluctuated dramatically over the past few years. Home prices on the island were increasing rapidly, spurred by the government』s devotion to promote it as atourism hub and free trade zone. New measures that were introduced in April restricting non-residents from purchasing homes on the island, where non-locals normally comprise about 80% of purchases, have caused sales to drop. Home transactions during the month fell 14% in May compared to the month before, and were 41% lower than the year before.

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili believes that China』s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a visionary project. By expanding cooperation, Margvelashvili is confident that more opportunities will be brought to the countries involved. Georgia is fully devoted to the initiative, and is a leading country when it comes to developing the project in the region. "If you look at the projects within the BRI, you will find there are many routes. However, the Georgian route is one of the easiest and most interesting," states Margvelashvili.
