give cold shoulder

give someone cold shoulder字面上的意思是給誰冷肩膀，實際表達的意思是對誰愛搭不理的，態度特別冷淡。

give someone the cold shoulder, basically means to intentionally appear disinterested toward one, to snub/ to intentionally ignore someone or treat someone in an unfriendly way.

表示故意對別人表現得很冷淡，很冷漠，或者故意忽視某人，對某人很不友好。

請看下面的場景對話進一步理解下它的意思和用法：

Jim: Hi May. What a beautiful woollen shawl you"re wearing! But it looks far too elegant to use for just another day in the office...

May: I know. 可不是嗎，我其實帶來是要借給 Lisa 用的，她可是剛陞官了啊。

Jim: Really. But she"s hardly even said hello to you since her promotion and you used to be friends...

May: I know. She"s been giving me the cold shoulder. 所以我這不才趕緊給她帶了條毛披肩 woollen shawl.

Jim: May, you do know there"s a difference between Lisa"s shoulders being cold because it"s winter and her "giving you the cold shoulder", don"t you? You can"t just warm her shoulders and then be friends again.

May: Yes, I do. 在英語里，我們用 give the cold shoulder 直譯「給冷肩膀」這個短語來形容一個人對其他人十分冷漠，愛搭不理的態度。Jim, 這個短語也暗示了此人覺得自己高高在上，對吧？

Jim: Yes. It means they are rejecting you or ignoring you. And "give the cold shoulder" is today"s expression in Authentic Real English.

Let"s make some sentences:

You may give a cold shoulder to a friend who has not kept a promise he made to you. Or, to someone who has lied about you to others.

當你的朋友沒有信守諾言，或者某人在其他人面前對你說三道四時，你會對他冷漠。

Don"t give me then cold shoulder; I don"t mean to make you angry.

你別冷落我，我不是存心惹你生氣的。
