Theregoes a saying 「Character is destiny.」

It may sound like a cliché now. But you have to admit that sometimes it really makes sense.

In today』s job market, people with specific skills are often not scarce resources, but those with comprehensive capabilities are.

The comprehensive capabilities include the ability to work effectively with people, analyze problems independently, self-develop, and manage oneself.

And these abilities are more or less related to your personality.

Some personality types may seem harmless, but they are very likely to hinder your career development.

Today we will try to analyze three typical personality types for you.

Type 1:being overly harsh on yourself

This may have something to do with our education system.

In school, you have a clear goal to work for, your efforts have clear criteria, and the questions you encounter have standard answers.

In such certain environment, any mistakes can be avoided, and such environment has spawned an unhealthy perfectionism.

In the workplace, there are no standard solutions for many of the tasks you take over, therefore making mistakes is inevitable.

People who are accustomed to perfectionism blame themselves too much for each mistake they make, and even feel discouraged, and this will not help them make progress.

What is really important is not the ability to avoid mistakes, but the ability to recognize the nature of the mistakes.

Do not treat every mistake as a shame. They are all important learning opportunities for you.

Type 2:being too obsessed with productivity

The productivity of a worker is rather important.

The amount of work you do says something about your ability, but only in a limited way.

Besides, comparing two people』s ability simply by the amount of work they do is really not a smart way.

Such value is used to judge the assembly line workers in the industrial age, and it is obviously inappropriate to judge today』s brain workers.

If you think about how to do more work every day, your mindset will become increasingly fixed, and your ability to solve open problems will get worse over time.

Moreover, this way of working will take up your time when you should be making strategic planning. Instead, you are only trying to become a better-functioning part of a machine, which is definitely not good for your long-term career development.

Type 3:being afraid of change and uncertainty

The pursuit of stability is not a bad thing.

In fact, many times this pursuit of stability drives us to improve ourselves and solve problems.

But if you cannot stand any uncertainty at all, then the result will be exactly the opposite.

No matter how stable the working environment is, there always exists uncertainty, which is especially evident in the Internet era.

A company』s personnel may change, new products may fail, and new leaders may change the direction of the strategic development.

Real opportunities only appear in uncertain areas, and that is what makes them opportunities.

If an opportunity is already certain when it appears, and everyone can see it and know how to get it, then it is no longer an opportunity.

A person who can only work in a completely safe field can be easily replaced. A person who can handle more uncertainties is the one who will seize more opportunities.
