溫哥華三聯市各學委候選人直接表態

10月份的市選臨近，高貴林有8位候選人登記，需要從中選出4位；高貴林港從6位候選人中選出2位；滿地寶從6位候選人中選出2位。

選誰呢？報上登了候選人簡介，可是看名字全不認識、照片都和善可親、資歷完美無缺、綱領言之有物。左看右看，難以抉擇。想到以前朋友們說過，這邊的參選者，尤其是在選舉前，都非常有耐心，對民眾問題有問必答。

那麼，我何妨也問問他們對於廣大家長們最關心的SOGI123的態度？

按照社區英文報上刊登的電郵地址，寫了統一的內容，分發給高貴林的諸位候選者。日常用中文寫作，英文有待提高，電郵盡量言簡意賅：「作為一名家長，我很想知道您關於SOGI123的態度」。

隨後幾天，陸續收到候選人們的回復。回復內容很有趣。他們特色各異的回復令他們的性格鮮明起來，有一種從報紙平面報道逐漸「復活」的感覺。於是，我萌發了將回復內容寫成文章的想法。又擔心翻譯成中文會令他們的意思表達不全面，容易發生「斷章取義」的誤會，便決定除了我的翻譯總結之外，再全文複製回複電郵原文，讓選民對候選人有更多了解。徵得他們的同意後，完成這篇報道。

第一位回復人：

Francis Bucher

Bucher先生是剛退休的小學老師，他曾參加過介紹SOGI的相關活動。

他認為，SOGI不會將學生推向任何方向，只會為所有相關人員提供信息，並試圖促進更好的理解和尊重。

SOGI是在試圖向人們解釋為什麼會存在不同的家庭形態，例如一個母親和一個父親，或一個母親，或一個父親，或兩個母親等。同時，SOGI還對於自身性別判斷困惑的孩子有幫助。所以，他表示支持這項倡議。

It seems to be surrounded with a degree of misunderstanding as well. You may know, I am a retired elementary school teacher (as of the end of June) and I have had an

inservice

workshop on the SOGI curriculum as it pertains to the early grades. It seems to me that this can be a helpful resource for a student who may be confused as to their sexual identity. It does not push the student in any direction but only seems to provide information for all concerned and attempts to foster better understanding and respect. At the primary level where I taught, SOGI education tries to explain how there are different types of families eg. a mother and a father, one mom, one dad, two moms etc. So my short answer is yes, I am in favour of this initiative.

Please email me back and let me know what you think after reading. All children need to feel safe, and I believe that is what SOGI is accomplishing. This isn"t new to our district.

可能是我回復中的「我們需要一個真正關心孩子的人」這句話觸動了O』Neill女士，她再次的回復講述了自己多年來所做過的義工，並強調

她支持SOGI是為了避免同性家庭的孩子，或本身是同性取向的孩子，或是變性的孩子等等受到歧視

。而如果孩子們從小就學會接受任何性別和性取向，長大了就不會歧視LGBTQ【註：LGBTQ是指女同性戀者（lesbians）、男同性戀者（gays）、雙性戀者（bisexuals）、跨性別者（transgender）和酷兒（queer）的英文字母縮略詞）】。最後，她說，「因此當你說你需要找一個真正關心孩子的人——那就是我」。

I do care about the kids, that"s why I am

running,

and ran in 2014. I have been a volunteer with PACs for 10 years, and with DPAC as the Parent Education Coordinator and organized parent info nights such as Safety on Social Media/Online Bullying, I put together a Mental Health and Wellness Fair for parents to help them with their kids" anxiety, depression, etc. I"ve also had BCCPAC present on how to advocate for your child in school and with the district. I truly do care about the kids, or I wouldn"t be running. I have two kids of my own, both have been bullied and harassed at school and both have learning difficulties and have been made fun of. I think about kids that are in a foster

family,

or a family that has two Moms or two Dads, and how they get made fun of, SOGI is there to educate kids on matters such as the last one I mentioned. No child should be made fun of or bullied because they have gay parents, or are maybe gay themselves, or bi, or transgender, or whatever it is they may be, they don"t deserve to be treated any differently than a child that is straight and comes from a family of a Mom and Dad. The earlier we educate our kids on accepting others the way they are and where they come from, the less bullying will happen. Don"t you agree? So when you say that you need a person who really cares.....that"s me.

王暉先生的回復應該算最長的，有著理工男的刻板、嚴謹。他先是引述了官網對SOGI的解釋。讀完冗長的解釋後，我的理解是——SOGI不是一個教學大綱，它似乎涉及各年級、多學科。

王暉認為，在尊重少數人權益的時候，也不要忽視多數人的權益。

儘管支持者做了很多工作，但是還應有更多的關於長遠影響的討論需要展開。看來王暉先生不贊同時下SOGI在學區推行。

I support the Ministry of Education』s intent to ensure that the diversity that exists in communities is reflected in existing classroom lessons. SOGI is not a new or separate course or curriculum. SOGI is about treating all people with dignity, respecting the diversity of our society and making learning environments safer for all students.

My short answer is yes. SOGI education in schools decreases bullying and reduces suicides - across all student populations. Students today are already aware of these issues from media – the SOGI 123 resource provides factual information about the variety of Canadians they will encounter, and how to treat those differences with respect.

他認為父母們僅是對SOGI的實施做出反應是不夠的，應該更多參與。

他支持父母事先了解教學內容，希望學校在實施SOGI之前與父母們進行更多溝通。

Parents have not had the time to fully understand and be informed

SOGI. I support a more thought out implementation plan and extended parent consultation. I support parents being aware of what is happening in classrooms in advance, and I would want schools to communicate proactively with parents prior to SOGI 123 curriculum being introduced.

I would like to take a holistic approach by maintaining and creating where needed inclusive kind and accepting environments enabling children to feel comfortable and safe coming to school. I support the SOGI curriculum. I understand the need

recognizing and supporting this program at different levels for different age groups at home and at school. I believe all information taught is age and developmentally appropriate. We need to teach kids about discrimination of all kinds and provide a safe environment and a sense of belonging for everyone regardless of our differences.

When I spoke to my children"s school about it, although it"s mandatory, it"s something they are very slowly introducing.
