沃爾特·阿魯費特（Walter Arrufat）1920年出生於美國紐約中南部城市賓厄姆頓，2007年11月辭世。生前他是一位職業婚禮和人物肖像攝影師，曾擔任聖克拉拉縣攝影協會主席一職。其攝影和工具製作技術被IBM用來協助知識產權保護，在IBM工作了45年。

二戰期間，沃爾特服役於美國海軍，並跟隨美海軍驅逐艦聯絡船（USS Sierra AD-18）於1945年10月12日至1946年2月5日在上海生活。這期間，他用自己的相機在上海街頭捕捉到不少生動的普通人面孔，真實記錄了那個年代的上海歷史與人文，並將全部96張黑白照片匯成影集《上海1945》（Shanghai in 1945）。
