Gartner發布「首個」存儲和數據保護技術炒作曲線,更豐滿了
我挺喜歡曲線的,覺得曲線很美,尤其是技(美)術(女)的曲線。
Gartner的存儲技術炒作曲線(Hype Cycle)一年一發,我總是認真閱讀,希望從中能夠參透存儲的技術走向。
但並不是所有的曲線都能看懂,就像人體曲線,那是藝術品,需要悟(想)性(象),才能看出美來。
我們先來回購一下2018年的情況,那個時候,人家叫存儲技術炒作曲線,沒有提數據保護,最少在標題里沒有體現。而且,曲線里的技術密密麻麻,好多和存儲並不是強相關的,比如數據分類。
那個時候,革命性的技術還有兩項,一個是數據重刪,一個是iSDS。
我其實也不知道Gartner為什麼把數據重刪放到這麼高的優先順序,我只能自己安慰自己說,可能未來數據爆炸,如果沒有重刪技術,地球上每年生產的介質估計也保存不了每年產生的數據,只能靠重刪了。我出去演講也是經常這樣忽悠大家的。
但今年的存儲技術炒作曲線,有了很多大的變化。首先,存儲技術修改為存儲和數據保護技術,差點讓我以為是一條全新的曲線。第二,只有23項技術了,整體曲線圖比原來清爽多了。我覺得比原來的曲線美了,簡約美,因為重點突出了,而且強調數據保護,體現現在第二存儲的熱潮,從內涵看,感覺曲線更豐滿了,少即是多,
不過,優先順序矩陣,我有點看不懂了。革命性技術只有一個iSDS了,而當年那個小甜甜Data Deduplication居然不見了。
一個革命性的技術,居然無疾而終?難度Gartner原來的判斷是錯的?
讓我們來看一下Gartner的解釋:
這個解釋我不太理解,說數據重刪和壓縮沒有達到高原前被廢棄了,但沒有說明具體的原因。可是前面幾期都把重刪的位置捧那麼高,說沒就沒了,也不知道為什麼。只有前戲,沒有高潮,總是讓人意猶未盡,你懂的(別打我,我以為你也是過來人,我錯了,嗚嗚)。
除了沒有了數據重刪和壓縮,下面的存儲技術也不見了:
Solid-state DIMMs
Hybrid DIMMs
Disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS)
Data classification
Data sanitization
Information dispersal algorithms
這個我是理解的,固態DIMM確實用得不多了,現在的潮流是SCM。不過,據說EMC的VxRail和華為的FusionStorage(現在據說要改名為Dolphin)好像一直用這種DIMM做寫緩存。其他的幾個特性和存儲確實關係不大,去掉更突出重點。
還有,下面的這些技術被整合了:
Data backup for mobile devices被合入enterprise endpoint backup.
SaaS archiving of messaging data被合入enterprise information archiving.
Hyperconverged integrated systems 和hyperconverged infrastructure 合併為hyperconvergence.
Emerging data storage protection schemes 更名為erasure coding.
就是,超融合軟體和一體機本來就是一回事,市場可以分開,技術沒有必要分開,合起來更好理解。
還有,今年的曲線增加了3個技術:
storage class memory
immutable data vault
data transfer and storage edge appliances
哇,SCM終於入選了,Intel多年推廣的3D-XPoint終於被存儲廠商採用,被收錄到曲線裡面來了。雖然SCM有很多廠商,但Intel這塊無疑是影響力最大的。
Gartner報告還提到,2019年進步最快的4個技術是:
erasure coding
distributed file systems
hyperconvergence
infrastructure SDS
所有這些都繼續顯示出健康的採用率,主要是用戶希望利用存儲軟體創新來實現基於行業標準硬體的可擴展且有彈性的存儲基礎架構。
最後呢,我列出這23個技術的現狀和典型廠商,為了更準確,我就不翻譯成中文了,很簡單,大家一看就懂的。

【點評】這裡主要指採用SCM技術的存儲公司,而不是SCM廠商本身。我們看到樣本廠商裡面有最新的創業公司Vast Data,這個我在Dell背書,全閃創業公司Vast Data融資80m,發誓消滅硬碟,消滅第二存儲一文中有分析。其實,我覺得也Gartner也應該提一下范承工博士創辦的MemVerge,他們用SCM更高級。上次和范博士喝咖啡的時候,他說Vast Data用的是3D-XPoint的SSD而已,但是他們採用的是3D-XPoint的內存形態,做的是基於SCM的超融合一體機。曬一張和偶像的合影,哈。

【點評】在這個iSDS領域,我覺得應該提一下華為的FusionStorage,今年發布了8.0,好像特性很厲害的樣子。不過,據說要其將改名叫Dolphin了,因為海豚比較聰明,喜群居,代表集群智能的寓意。

【點評】對象存儲,我覺得Gartner應該提一提中國的一些創業公司。根據我剛拿到IDC最新的19Q1中國SDS跟蹤數據(過幾天再和大家詳細解讀),中國的對象存儲市場領域創業公司XSKY還是做得相當不錯的。

【點評】在真CDP(連續捕獲)這塊,市場玩家不多,原來飛康做得不錯,但現在飛康在市場上的聲音越來越少。不過,原來飛康的聯合創始人WAYNE LAM和Wai T. Lam兩兄弟出來創辦的CirrusData(南京有分公司)也推出了新一代CDP產品。前段時間在紐約我去拜訪了CirrusData總部,Wai T. Lam說他親自編碼的新CDP非常不錯,可以恢復到每個IO粒度,架構也是全新設計。我在國內看過他們的演示,感覺技術上還是不錯的。這裡也曬一下我和兩位大拿的合影,一把年紀還在coding,不服不行。
總的來說,Gartner發布的這個2019年度的存儲和數據保護技術炒作曲線,雖然有一些不足,但是還是對於我們存儲人士了解市場技術變化提供了很多有用的信息。這也是我把一些關鍵信息分享給大家的原因。至於報告的全文,我們需要等某些公司(最可能是新Name的公司,如Vast Data)購買共享版本後大家才有機會免費看到,需要再等等了。如果哪天我找到可以共享的全文鏈接,我會發在這篇文章的留言里,敬請期待。
